Florida NFPA 70E – 2012 Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace is intended for use by owners, contractors, employers, safety directors and trainers, managers, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) buyers, electrically qualified workers and unqualified employees who need to protection against electrical hazards in the workplace. NFPA 70E for work practices is designed to avoid injury from a release of electrical energy and help to prevent or minimize exposure to all widely recognized electrical hazards.
The course provides a summary of the major changes to the previous 2009 NFPA 70E in the 2012 edition, and is designed be used in conjunction with a hard copy of the NFPA 70E. We recommend that you use the published standard for reference, particularly to review large tables that cannot be displayed in the course screen due to their size.

At the end of this program, you should be able to:
- Describe the major changes made in Article 90 and Chapter 1 of the 2012 NFPA 70E edition.
- Describe how to establish an electrically safe work condition; electric shock, arc flash, arc blast; personal protective equipment (PPE); approach boundaries; flash protection boundary; and, working “on” or “near” live parts.
- Describe the elements of an electrical safety program, including program principles, controls and procedures; hazard/risk evaluation; job briefings; and training requirements for single-employer sites and multi-employer sites, and for qualified and unqualified persons.
- Explain the proper use of test instruments and equipment, portable electric equipment, overcurrent protection, and lockout/tagout procedures and equipment.
- Distinguish the major types of electrical hazards and the Personal Protective Equipment that is selected to reduce injuries.
- Describe the major changes in Chapter 2 and 3 in the 2012 NFPA 70E edition.
- Describe safety-related maintenance requirements for electrical equipment and installations in workplaces.
